Gene McCarthy’s has served the Old First Ward since 1963. Now under the ownership of a team of local craft beer enthusiasts, the long time bar will soon feature a brewery next door, which will provide locally brewed beer to its customers. In addition, Gene McCarthy’s Brewing & Kitchen will continue to feature New York State brewed beers, bringing its excellent collection of ales and lagers closer to home. In one short year, the new owners have also succeeded in showcasing a stellar pub menu, using creative flavors to serve traditional Buffalo fare. Bicycle and outdoor seating friendly, the brewpub welcomes all lovers of locally crafted beer and food, partaken in an atmosphere that celebrates the Old First Ward’s history, and its continued cultural milieu.

Monday May 13, 2013 was the official ground breaking of the Old First Ward Brewing Company’s brew house!  Dustin Tower [owner], Matt Conron [owner], Bill Metzger [owner] and Mickey Metzger all raise a glass to the occasion [missing is owner Kristin Rose, who was too lazy to wake up early on a Monday morning].

We hope to be pouring our own beer by the end of the summer.
